Kids play a factor into many household purchasing decisions so it makes sense that you’d consider them before purchasing a bidet too! But have no worries, bidets are perfectly fine for children to use (with some supervision to start).
What’s An Appropriate Age For Bidet Use?
Anyone ages 4+ can use a bidet. I’d recommend going through a normal potty training experience first since there are unfortunately not bidets everywhere. This ensures that your child will know how to wipe with toilet paper which will come in handy at friend’s houses (if you haven’t converted them yet!) and public places. Once your child has mastered that, feel free to introduce the bidet to them. Have them take the test to help them understand the bidet’s benefits!
Things To Keep In Mind
- Watch the Pressure: a lot of bidets produce a heavily pressurized stream of water when they are turned on all the way. Make sure your child knows how much to turn the knob to get clean while staying safe – consider marking the ideal location of the knob with a sharpie
- Body Differences: a child’s bum is a smaller target than an adults (and they often sit on toilets at weird angles) so don’t be surprised if they need to adjust their seating position when they go to get clean
- Time and Practice: it will take your child some practice to get things right. Don’t be discouraged if it takes up to a month for them to fully get the hang out it
- Backup Plan: remember that they can always use toilet paper as a backup option if things aren’t going well! Use your best judgement as a parent to determine whether they need some time to pass before trying it out again
Bidet Bonus: No More Clogs!
Children tend to use waaay too much toilet paper when wiping which can lead to a clogged toilet that mom or dad has to fix. With a bidet, this isn’t a problem!
